Why Pet Insurance?

In general, medicine is expensive, but the cost of animal health continues to rise in the United States. Yes, general veterinary care can sometimes be spendy, but the real costs occur in emergencies. We never want a pet parent to have to make a difficult decision with finances in mind, therefore we believe that pet insurance is the best way to enable gold standard veterinary care for every patient regardless of expense.

When would you use Pet Insurance?

Some policies cover wellness care, vaccines, routine procedures but most focus on major medical concerns. Examples of these are:

Unexpected injuries and accidents (foreign object ingestion, broken bones, trauma and more)

Unexpected illnesses (cancer, kidney disease, metabolic diseases, infectious diseases (i.e., parvovirus) and more)

Surgery (cruciate ligament tears, cataracts, and more)

Prescription medications for illness (often insurances do not cover preventative medications like flea/tick products)

Tests/diagnostics (x-rays, blood work, advanced diagnostics and more)

How does Pet Insurance work?

  1. Apply for insurance policies via carrier websites. Once policy is in effect, they will cover what is defined in your coverage details.

  2. Unlike human health insurance, most pet insurance policies reimburse the owner directly for costs. We at SPV are working to accept all insurance carriers directly but not all are available at this time.

  3. Insurance companies are increasingly quick about getting reimbursement payments back to owners
